The high levels of estrogen turned me into a bloated basketcase and it made my acne worse! 20th May 2004 I have been taking Ovcon for years (after Orthotricyclen flipped me out totally) but when I startedbreaking out I opted to switch to a type of BC that is said to help. The doc chose Estrostep -- which has the SAME chemicals as Ovcon, but less estrogen and more progestin.
I had a TERRIBLE reaction to it (the doc said i am progestin intolerant). After two weeks I gained 8 pounds (i TRIED for the last 3 years to gain weight but couldnt and suddenly i packed it on in a bad way), I broke out and my blood pressure went through the roof. I am back on Ovcon now and trying antibiotics and retin-a micro. . . Hairloss and all the side effects that are listed with BC tend to be listed with all forms of it, fyi. It jsut depends on how your body reacts to it. 20th May 2004 I have been taking Ovcon for years (after Orthotricyclen flipped me out totally) but when I startedbreaking out I opted to switch to a type of BC that is said to help. You can be prepared for an initial breakout, if you are prone to breakouts already, with any new pill, so whether you take this one or another one, you will still get a little bit of a breakout. Stick with it, though...after about 2-3 months, you will likely see a big difference.
By the way, Yasmin isn't all it's cracked up to be. I got horrible cystic acne while on Yasmin and as soon as I got off of it, I cleared up. Now, I have no cysts at all after month 4. 21st May 2004 I dont hink you can be tested for allergies to the hormones in pills. You already have forms of those hormones in your body. Its not so much a matter of allergy - but tolerance. Its how your body deals with the volume of hormones.
Most everyone I know is on one form of the Pill or another, most of them also have better reactions with certain Pills, so its just a matter of trying it and seeing. I am on Ovcon, which has more estrogen for the duration than estrostep (AND its the SAME chemical compound), it also uses the same progestin, only abotu 3 times as much. THat is what my body freaked over. I wouldnt panick if I were you. just talk to your doc and express your concerns and she/he will prolly find the thing thats right for yoU! 21st May 2004 Hello everyone,
Thank you soo much for reassuring me about taking estrostep. I guess this will be my first time using it so in my mind I have all the worse scenarios possible that will happen to me once i take estrostep such as massive hair loss, bumps all over my face, blood clot, heart attack and all that good stuff... hahahaa.... I told my derm about it, he laughed and said that I am a healthy young woman so it's very unlikely that all of these will happen to me. You guys made my day. Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions... I will let you know about my progress if you want... Have a great weekend, Anita |
