Pain medication after bunion surgery (Foot Problems board)

28th July 2004
Hi all,

I am new here. I am getting bunion surgery on my right foot this Friday and I was just wondering if anyone has ever taken Endocet for pain relief after the surgery. The doctor described Percocet but my mother instead got the generic brand. Does anyone know if it just as effective?

Hi jmy87,
I think it's pretty common for pharmacists to substitute generic brands for name brands. My pharmacists does it whenever the generic brand is available and generic brands have the exact same ingredients as the name brands, the only difference being the price! Keep in mind that the first two to three days after surgery are the worst in terms of pain. After that, it tapers off quickly (at least in my case it did). I would encourage you to call your doctor if you find that the medication is does not help with your pain management. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you on Friday. Keep us posted!
