   hey!! (Asthma board)

6th May 2004
hey! I'm Amanda, 15/tx with asthma. I'm new to these board things but I've watched people post for like a week. I was diagnosed when I was 4 or 5 and since then its jumped from mild to moderate to severe to moderate. so that must mean its going to be mild again soon!!! lol right now I'm on advair 250/50, singulair, prevacid, albuterol (by nebulizer and inhaler),flonase, elidel and I think thats quite enough!!!!! lol

do any of you know any non-medicine, non-herb thingy treatments (i know caffeine is one :D :D ) and would I be allowed to take extra steroids with a cold or somethin? like qvar??? I used to take that with Advair when I had real bad astham. my asthma goes crazy with a cold..... I'd ask my pulmonolgist about the steroids but I hate him . neway I look forward to meeting you all!!!!! :jester:

o o o!! I forgot to ask! does milk seem to make your asthma attacks worse???/ i feel like i've got a wad of crap in the back of my throat when I do that and it makes it harder to breathe!!!!!

Hi Amanda, I'm Rachel. Hopefully your asthma will get mild soon. :)

How's Elidel working for you? I'm looking into getting some...

I don't really know of any non-medicinal treatments, besides magnesium as someone already said. I've actually heard that with some people, caffeine restricts their airways further rather than opening them up. The same goes with alcohol.

I'm pretty sure taking Qvar is a good idea for taking with an upper respiratory infection. Check with your doctor first though, no matter how much you hate him. :)

Sometimes I notice the thing about the milk also, but I'm not allergic to it. I read in some places that it makes mucus thicker and in other places I read that it doesn't. But for me it seems to gather post-nasal drip or something. I dunno.

Take care.

lol sry 2 bring up such an old post but okay.....

jp: sometimes i do get wheezy and i have no exercise tolerance whatsoever but my pulmo. doesnt really care. he just sent me 4 an exercise stress testing. i run year round (cross-country and track, indoor n outdoor) and lately i just cant do it. the coach is really understanding though, she said whenever i need to rest, just rest

zimnah: yes im on prevacid for gerd. the throat thing is like its all mucusy and when u breathe in u feel it going into ur lungs, right?

swimfast: elidel works graet for me!! i love it !!! my atopic dermatitis is mild tho, idk about urs

the main reason i brought up this post is b/c when i went to the dr again a few days ago the diagnosis sheet just said 'cough' and not asthma or anything. any1 know why? :) lol. & he's also sendig me for a exercise stress test b/c i was telling him that i had alot of probs in track. y would he send me for that if my dad was there supporting the fact that i get really wheezie w/ running?
