It looks like it has the added bonus of being an anti-depressant. Did you take "Amitriptyline HCL" or "Amitriptyline w/ Perphenazine?" It does list some side effects, but i wonder how common they are.
Genn, do you remember being particular dry during the course of your medication? how long did you take Amitriptyline?
It actually is an anti-depressant, but doctors figured out that when taken in very low doses it also prevents migraine headaches! For use as an anti-depressant you would take about 60 mg per day, although I have heard that it is not highy prescibed for depression anymore, because there are a lot of newer drugs available now.
I took 10 mg of Elavil (Amitriptyline HCL) per day for about 4 months. The reason I stopped taking it was because I lost my health insurance, and it was very expensive! The only possible side effect that I can recall was being thirsty. I just drank a lot of water, which I am sure was good for me anyway! I do not remember being particularly dry, but I do remember that I didn't need to wear makeup! So, I must have not been oily! It is funny, I had not even thought about the correlation between the elavil and my complexion. But, my friend just gave me some pictures of us from that summer, one of them is a pretty close up shot of me, and my husband even commented on how clear my skin was...
Very interesting...
