I'm not an expert on Elavil (Amitryptaline) or anything but I was prescribed it once for pain occuring with Interstitial Cystitis. I was told it is often used for chronic pain conditions (maybe like fibro?) because it somehow interferes with pain signals, like it "turns down the volume" on pain so to speak.

But boy it can make a person sleepy. Plus I found it increased my appetite a lot.
