P.E.T Patulous eustachian tube my story tell me yours any ideas for natural cures? (Hearing Disorders board)

21st July 2007
Hi! I'm Kris, and I'm 39. I have just recently (as of 3 days ago) discovered what the heck was wrong with me... P.E.T. and I am so discouraged with all that I have read! I have had sporatic episodes over the last 8 years & I would take some benedryl and it would go away in a few hours. I would only have this once or twice a YEAR. I started taking oral contraceptives April 1 in order to regulate my hormone levels and stop my 15-20 migraines I get a month. It worked, I only get 3-7 now, plus, I don't have a period anymore, that's nice! (I take the pill everyday without taking the week off to have my period) My symptoms (hearing myself in my head, hearing my breathing in my head, etc.. ) started up not long after I started on the pill. Then, in June, I had a horrid episode of vertigo. I had no idea what was wrong with my and my husband called 911. I haven't had that again at all but the symptoms started to get more frequent still. My ENT did a few hearing tests and thought I might have Meniere's so he put me on Dyazide. I didn't take it for a couple of weeks because my blood pressure tends to be low anyway and I take another med that gives me a bit of dry mouth- I was concerned about all that. last week he said to try it and see if it helps. Well I started it Tuesday and had it in my left ear all day. Wednesday I had it in both ears and by midday I was feeling so weak- like i hadn't eaten anything in days, I was SO lethargic it took a lot for me to recover from climbing the stairs. I went to his office and waited til he saw me. He finally listened to me saying that I heard my self in my head, my breathing and my talking, etc... (as if I hadn't been saying that all long) and he said I have PET. There are some meds I can't take because I have narrow angle glaucoma so he precribed the Premarin nose drops for me. I haven't started them yet- I'm paranoid about meds lately so I'm going to wait a bit first. Anyway... after researching a little on the web I found that oral contraceptives and diuretics are two meds that can have an affect on this condition. I called him about it and he said he doesn't think the dyazide is causing it but if I want to I can stop taking it. Darn right I'm stopping it, whether he says I can or not! Today, my 2nd day off of it, I've had less symptoms.
I also have TMJ problems, and i have lost 15 pounds but over 5 months' time so that shouldn't be an issue. Plus, I've lost and gained weight since 2000... once going from 165 to 126 February to May and didn't get this PET.

It's so weird...
I'm talking to everyone I know and everyone THEY know, etc.. to find someone who may have info about this. It seems this Dr Poe is the one guy with the info but someone else mentioned Dr Baboo or something like that. Heard of him?
I'm just leaving the "starting line" so I have a lot to learn.

It's nice to have people who share your frustrations with something like this, although, I wish no one had to.

Kris
