Hi All,

Well, I don't seem to be able to tolerate Maxide or Dyazide (Triam/HCTZ)--dizzy, headaches, fatigue----and I didn't do well on straight HCTZ--hypokalemia. But after a few days when I take my ARB without the diuretic, I swell up like a balloon!

Are there any other diuretics I can try? I am seeing the doc on Friday.

Yes, Lasix (furosemide) is a LOOP diuretic. It works differently from thiazides and triamterene (potassium sparing component of Maxide and Dyazide.)
If you try it, make sure you get a prescription for potassium chloride 20 MeQ (800 mg potassium) to prevent going low on potassium.

It seems to dump water without dumping as much sodium. THe good is that you don't get hyponatremic from it but the bad is that the water rebounds quickly. Taking Lasix twice a day is common. (I take 40-40mg. 12 hours apart.)

Both the furosemide and the KCl are very inexpensive.

You might also consider hydrochlorothiazide and potassium supplementation?

You are not the first person to have problems with triamterene.
