Symptoms of acid reflux? (Acid Reflux board)

30th May 2007
Fam, :)

Many thanks for your very detailed and informative post! Boy, do I have a lot to learn!

[QUOTE]Then I turned my meals upside down. I ate like a Queen at breaksfast, a Princess at lunch, & a pauper at supper. At supper, I eat easily digested food so that there isn't much in my stomach by bedtime.

This I can do quite easily and will try for sure! Whether or not my problems arise from GERD or similar condition does not matter so much. I usually have fruit, nuts and later on oatmeal with flaxseed, cinnamon, cranberries etc. for breakfast. It sounds like a lot but I eat it over 4-5 hours. I have cut back on the meat A LOT months ago because of my cholesterol issues and diets (low salt low fat). Same with the deep fried foods. If I have something I shouldn't I walk an extra half an hour or so and promise to myself to never do it again ( I use olive oil only for salads and such. No butter, no margarine.

[QUOTE]For me that is 2 glasses of milk & maybe a salad & a slice of cheese. Eating out is usually out of the question so I just have a glass of water & enjoy the conversation. I take my food everywhere even on a cross country trip. It sure beats being up all night with pain etc.

I often have a glass of milk with a chunk of freshly baked bread. (Store-bought). My husband's thing - he only eats fresh bread and won't touch it the second day. He is a diabetic so we've been eating lots of veggies and fruit for years (no sugary foods). Do you cook special foods for yourself? Why must you take food with you when travelling? You can get a plain salad anywhere!

[QUOTE]Since I had a sliding hiatal hernia, my stomach goes part way up in the chest & does cause SOB at times. This happens mostly when I have eaten too much.

I am surprised to hear that! Looks like you and I have had to deal with a bunch of medical issues (one or two would have been enough!). Fam, while walking tonight, I had to stop and consider heading back after only 10 minutes. My stomach felt soooo heavy and my breathing was worse than usual and it was hot outside. I walked only with great discomfort and apprehension. I was too afraid to do my usual route (which takes me partly through unpopulated wooded area). I ended up just going around in a circle through a few streets instead.
(I ate a little bit of stew for dinner - two bites of meat, rest veggies). Not a big or heavy meal. I am starting to feel scared about this whole thing. The SOB should be getting better- I have not taken Diovan since my last allergic reaction to it, and my dose of beta blockers is lower now (if THAT'S what's causing my SOB).
I don't know how to begin explaining any of this to my doctor with him sneaking a look at his wristwatch now and then. There will not be time for any of that because we have to deal with my drug allergy.

[QUOTE]If you bend over, do you feel acid/food coming up your throat(esophagus)?

I have what feels like a burning sensation there all the time. Considering all the side effects of my meds, it could be just another one I figure. Or from the breathing. At least it does not hurt.
When I bend over, I feel my breathing speed up. I don't taste any acid.
