Should I get surgery for my anal fissure? (Bowel Disorders board)

11th June 2008
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and I joined due to my problem alone...
The genereal surgeon told me that it looks like i have a fissure.
for the past 2 months i have been using a diltiazem ointment which seems to be working out just fine.. or so i thought.. i have not been having any pains going number 2 and have been prettty consistent with eating brown bread and drinking plenty of water. Today i felt what i thought was a soft stool coming but was actually very hard and ripped it and for the first time i saw blood on the toilet paper. this fissue problem, although seems small has ruined my lifestyle. I hold back on travelling and doing certain things because i dont want to have to go to the washroom other than at home. I am very dissapointed because i have been doing so well for 2 months and now (6 days from seeing the doctor again) feel that all my progress just went down the drain... i guess my question is this... is all this hardwork and proress (or what i feel is progress) wasted because i re-tore and stretched the anus again? this is the first time i have seen blood in a veryyy long time prolly about 3-4 months maybe longer (i held off going to the doctor because i was embarresed)
this happened to me tonight so i am still quite rattled that after all of this carefull-ness and diet altering, that my progress is back to square one...
