   systemic desensitization (Allergies board)

2nd February 2003
Dawn,

i hope this helps -- it can't hurt. anyone who has taken antibiotics for an entire year runs a serious risk of becoming infected with massive amounts of yeast overgrowth. sugar is enemy #1. if i were you i would get to my doctor and demand a script for diflucan at least 100mg tablets 1/day for an entire month. you should also take it in conjunction with POWDERED nystantin. 1/4 tspn 2x's/day.

you need to COMPLETELY eliminate all forms of sugar from your diet. only consume small amounts of unprocessed carbs for the first few months. NO FRUIT.

most people are so ADDICTED to SUGAR that this is impossible to do. i believe that it is easier for an alcoholic to get off booze than for the average person to get off sugar (just my opinion).

you need to start consuming a daily large portion of a DARK green leafy vegetable. forget the lettuce and that includes romaine ( that can be added much later).

flax and mercury free fish oil will help. PROBIOTICS might be the most important part of your recovery. start out with acidophilus. be careful some probiotics will make some people worse an ex. would be Bifidus. Acidophilus should be well tolerated -- check the expiration date on it.

good luck.....i had almost identical problems to what you just described.... i'm much better but there is still room for much improvement. there are dozens of other things you can do....keep doing research.

those tests are meaningless. they do not pickup on reactions that are of the intracellular, kinin mediated type. to put it frankly most doctors don't have a CLUE.

it is extremely frustrating for a person in your position. save your money on allergy proofing your house. spend it on more effective treatments.

i believe your intuition lets you know that the antibiotics caused some serious problems. when i started on the diflucan there was a lot of vomiting and diarhea. it wasn't pleasant but i stuck with it. it was 2 weeks of pure hell. it finally ended about 1 week ago.

in your opinion why is the probiotic causing nausea? does it contain dairy? what brand are you using?

you need to learn all you can about the individual amino acids. some like cysteine are truly remarkable and very likely will dramatically improve your allergy threshold. a doctor will never tell you this information. but most important you have to try and get some homemade yogurt into your system. i like GOAT milk because it is less allergenic -- it has only minute amounts of casein. the acidophilus from the fresh culture should also give your body a huge boost in immunity.

i remember when i could not even step outside the house because the smell of perfume made me sick. God, that was horrible.

once again do some research into cysteine -- one doctor stated that every single person who suffers from chronic illness should supplement this amino acid. it helped me. however, it is somewhat expensive. i pay $15.50 for 60 500mg capsules. (but i keep buying it)

i remember about 1 year ago, i went to my friends house and when he showed me the basement it only took about 20 seconds before i started dry heaving. i didn't want him to think i was crazy or rude so i just stood there holding it all back. meanwhile i was getting sicker and sicker-- it was a nightmare. i was so sick during that period i was afraid to leave the house.

and i have always had a strong stomach -- i never throw up.

although you have a lot more going on than me there is still a lot of hope for you. however, i seriously thought i was going to die a couple of years ago -- i could not even climb steps i was that bad and just a few years prior to that i was running half marathons.

don't waste your money on glutathione; your body will eventually manufacture it with the help of the cysteine. there is much debate as to which is better NAC or cysteine -- i really don't know. they are about equal priced. one converts into the other as needed by the body.

you listed FOS (frugo...) as an ingredient in probiotic... i have read a lot that said it may not be necessary and could make things worse by feeding bad bacteria. i don't know. the L. Bifidum caused a lot of problems with me. however, i have had raging IBS for 20 years therefore, pretty much everything effects me. you may be different. check out the trinity brand of just pure acidophilus. you can add different strains such as reuteri, longum, etc. later. i don't know what works the best but acidophilus is a good starting point. try the hydration (of the capsules) method when you are not eating yogurt.

one thing that i am pretty confident of and that is that people who have chronic illness end up with either disordered sulfur metabolism or just plain deficiency. if anyone tells you that is not true don't trust them. i have researched this long and hard and have used myself as a guinea pig for the last 2 1/2 years.

you mention adrenal dysfunction.... so the doctor puts you on another drug. the reason you have adrenal dysfunction (and i had it too!!!) is because your body is fighting so hard to combat all these allergies and quite possibly the yeast.

the proper way to restore adrenal function is through precursor loading of phenylalanine (maybe a little tyrosine) but the critical factor is methionine. methionine is critical because it creates an enzyme that allows your body to produce the adrenalin that it needs to fight these battles

once again it goes back to Dr. Philpot who stated a long time ago after examining the stool specimens of thousands of chronically ill people that ---- "the single most prevalent factor among these people is disordered methionine metabolism"..... which gives rise to disordered cysteine level ....NAC. ..glutathione.... right on down the line.
i could be wrong but i think you would dramatically benefit if you study some books on amino acid therapy and very slowly and carefully start rebuilding your body with them. don't neglect the importance of minerals especially magnesium (i like the chelated type), and it is never a waste of money for a chronically ill person to take a high quality b vitamin, and don't underestimate the power of the omega 3 fatty acids (you will die without them --2 are essential)

by the way i spend thousands to see alternative care M.D.'s in my area. these guys are not quacks. one of them was educated at Yale U.

so a lot of what i am passing on to you is roughly the same if you were to visit these doctors.

answer.... i think you asked me about the nystantin. yesterday i finished my last dose of diflucan however the doctor sold me a jar of nystantin that will last 3 1/2 months and he told me to just keep taking it. i am supposed to gargle with it so that hopefully anything in my nasal passages might also (hopefully) be affected by it.

right now cysteine gives me the best relief from moldy air... my head is always a lot clearer when i take it. however, i still take the flonase because i have had enough abuse. i hate going out into the cold weather and feeling all dopey with 10 minutes.

you never mentioned if you have any type of IBS or spastic colon or diarhea. my problem is that my colon reacts to something and locks up. possibly the diflucan treatment combined with heavy dosing of acidophilus is working for me because 6 of the last 7 days have been pretty good. that is my main concern right now. i have to get my intestines working correctly. and i am praying hard that the yeast treatment is going to be the missing piece of the puzzle.
