Okay, this is my first time posting on Healthboards, but I have read most of the threads on Yasmin. I started taking Yasmin in December to help with my mild acne. Almost immediately, I was breaking out worse than ever...I mean definitely worse than my normal acne. Especially in places that I never breakout (like forehead, hairline, nose, etc.) But I really wanted to stick it out because of everything that I have read about the initial breakout, give it at least 3-4months, etc. And the weird thing is that my skin clears up perfectly on the placebo pills, then starts to break out again alsmot the exact day I start that active pills. Very frustrating!
So, I just started my 4th month this past week. And like clockwork, my skin started breaking out on the active pills.
I just do not know what to do. Should I give it 6 months? Or is this a sign that Yasmin will NOT work for me.
I know it takes a while for the pills to adjust, but I am starting to get discouraged. I am thinking of switching to Desogen. Any advice would be great, especially if someone has had a similiar experience.

hi...my situation is like yours... a week before the white pills my face starts to calm down and during the white pills i dont get any new breakouts, and i feel good about my skin... but for the 2 weeks after the white pills i get breakouts again!...
im on my 6th month with yasmin, ive stuck through it because i keep thinking it will get better, and i still dont know if i want to keep on it because it seems like i always breakout during the first two weeks and it gets me really down.... but i guess i stay on it because 1) i think more time MIGHT be what i need...and 2) when im on the white pills and a week before i really like my skin.... so i dont know what to do....i think im going to stay on them until my next doctor visit (about 4 more months) and see from there...i was thinking about going on a tri phasic birth control....??
and another thing...before i was on yasmin i would break out a week before my period and the week of my period...so it basically just switched it around which is weird i guess...
Hi surenitynow, I've read a lot of your posts and hope that the Yasmin gets better for you. But I just can't take it anymore. Today, my whole forhead was broken out and I NEVER break out on my forhead. There are just bumps everywhere, under my skin on my cheeks and chin. I just do not think the Yasmin is good for me.
I called my doctor and she said I should start the desogen next month. Actually, it's called orthocept...same as desogen. So, I need to get thru the next two weeks on Yasmin and then I am switching. If you want, I could keep you updated.
I've tried Ortho-tricyclen in the past and it caused problems for my skin too, so I really hope the orthocept at the very least does not make my acne worse.

that would be great if you kept us updated when you switch, i would really want to know how it works for you, because it might be something i would switch over to also...thaNKS!
Hi. My case is very similar to yours. I started Yasmin a couple weeks ago and it's making me break out on my forehead and cheeks. I am very interested in knowing if you did switch to desogen/orthocept and if so, did it help you at all? Please let me know how you are doing. Thanks so much!
