Ortho to Yasmin Switch (Acne board)

30th October 2004
Katrina -

Hi! I am also interested in any other replies to your thread.

I am currently on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo, but am interested in switching to either Yasmin or Desogen. I have been sticking with OTC Lo since January, but it is very inconsistent when it comes to my skin.

I guess I am just scared to switch to something else since I never experienced any side effects from OTC Lo.

Any other replies??

I was on Yasmin first. Had to discontinue because of nausea but my skin was looking good. Tried ortho lo and it was a disaster for my skin. Now I'm on Desogen and doing fine.

I was on OTC Lo last year and my skin was horrible too. I've been on regular OTC for 6 months now and my skin looks great.

Hey sammy726-

Did you switch directly from OTC Lo to regular OTC? If so, did you get another initial breakout? My initial breakout for OTC Lo was HORRIBLE and I don't want that to happen again.

I am going to let my gyno to decide if I should switch to Yasmin, Desogen, or regular OTC. Unfortunately, I need to make sure that my health insurance will cover whatever pill I am given.

Thanks!

Thanks, Skimom. I am going to ask a really stupid question- what is androgenic effect? I hear that used in bc topics but don't really know what it means! Also, I am on orthocyclin now, not the tri. In ortho, the hormone levels are even for the whole three weeks.

Hey girls! I figured it was about time to bump up this thread again! ;)

Do you like regular Ortho-cyclen? Or are you switching to Yasmin? I am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and I think that the reason I break out differently every week is because of the hormone changes!

I need to talk to my gyno or derm, but perhaps I would be better off with something monophasic (where the hormones stay the same for the whole 3 weeks before the placebo pills)! That's why I was interested in Yasmin or Desogen! Any suggestions?

I break out alot more now on Orthocyclin than I ever did with any other birth control. I start my switch to Yasmin today. I am hoping that will help the problem. I have heard nothing but bad things about ortho tri cyclen lo, I think it provides too little estrogen for those with hormonal acne. I don't know much aboutt his stuff, but from what I have heard on other boards, you might be best switching to ortho tri (regular), desogen, or yasmin. Good luck!

Thanks for the input....I just can't believe I have waited for 11 months to see results on OTC Lo!
Anyways, I am already on Spiro (50mg/day), but am hoping to switch BCP's next week to either Yasmin or Desogen. I just have to call my gyno and see which one I should go on! I haven't seen any results on Spiro yet, but it is probably b/c OTC Lo is so HORRIBLE!!! :o

How is your switch going so far with Yasmin? Any bad side effects?
