I am very concerned for my friends 13yr old son. I have known them for 7 yrs he has ADHD and in the course of the 7 yrs that I have known them his medicine concerns me tremendously. I try to tell my friend my opinion when she tells me of his medicine increases. This child under doctors care keeps increasing his medicine he is on Focalin, Depakote (1250mg)the doctor wants to increase it to 2000mg, Wellbutrin,Lexapro and trazadone (50mg).I told my friend this is too much for anyone the doctors tells her he is now bipolar I try to tell her with the all these meds it triggers the bipolar (manic depressant), he does have suicidal thoughts I remind you. Just this past week she put him in the hospital to get him detoxed but the doctor wont do it except to only increase his medicine as well as alter meds add some and take some away in my opinion he is a time bomb ready to explode. She got a second opinion from another Doctor which he says he is more ADHD, they done an urinalysis on him he has high level of protein in his urine and found something wrong with his Kidneys so they are getting a kidney specialist in to look at him.
My friend doesn't work cause of her son she collects a disability check SSI because they classed him bipolar my opinion from all the meds cause he is only getting worse than better. My opinion is if it was my son and to put him through all this for a disability check isn't worth all this for his health and life. I try to tell her but she tends to listen to the doctor more so, because he has the degree and I don't but as a parent myself I would know better of my child I have seen the good side of him I know what his home structure is like which don't help for she is somewhat controlling and there is no structure or consistency of rules so this also makes the problem worse just the same with the meds. So with just a little highlights I need some advice to help better her and her son in the future cause as a friend I am concerned mainly for the well being of her 13 yr old son.
