weight gain on antidepressants (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

30th April 2004
I am currently on Lexapro and Topomax, I had been gaining weight, but recently, the doctor increased my dose of Topomax and I have no appetite at all. I have lost about 10lbs in 2 weeks, so it isn't always the medicine. Trust me,I know, I am a nurse also. At first, I thought, Hey I dont need this horse mess, just like my patients tell me everyday, but I have stuck by it for about 6 months now and I am glad I did. I have been on Depakote, Lithium, and Tegretol not to mention a handful of other seizure meds in the past. This one works best for me. I am not a big person to begin with so I hope this med has a stopping point on the weight balance scale also. Good luck to all you on the weight loss. Wellbutrin and Paxil and most of the others do have a tendency to make you gain weight not the med itself, but it has an appetite stimulant factor they say
