I am in trouble - who can suggest anything... (Back Problems board)

1st October 2007
I hope you are having a better day today!!

I was taking Percocet for 2 years now and I was OK on it. Since I am on Coumadin (blood thinner) I am not allowed to have Tylenol and Tylenol/Aspirin related meds.
They switched me to Oxicodone and I got such a reaction to it last night!!! I am sick as a dog. I just find out why: containes Codein and Morphine and I am terrible allergic to both of them.
My PM at HSS scratching his head since meds to manage the pain are all have either Tylenol or Morphine and Codein...
Does somebody had same situation as me? I don't know what to do now and how can I leave without managing the pain? And what will they do for me after the surgery instead of Morphine pump? I am so scared now!!!!:D

Thank you for you responds, very helpful...:)

Today is not a good day for me at all: i called to my PM and he was upset not knowing what else to give me since I am allergic to Morphine and Codein and not allowed to have Tylenol.
Finaly he decided on one med, but said that also contains Morphine but in a smaller amount than Oxicodone.
Well ,I went to check my blood today since I am on a Coumadin and they said my blood is too thin (suppose to be between 2-3, I had 5 1/2) and no matter what narco meds I will be on - it will not work with Coumadin.

She said that I have to stop taking them all and have to choose what is more important - to tolerate pain (????) or blood clot and stroke. Would you believe this? Does she know what kind pain is she talking about?
So I decided if this is the case - let me not experiment anymore and go back to my Percocet, why try if all of them have same affect on blood thinning? Whatever will be, I am so tired from all this.
PM Dr is trying to accomidate me, but it's just my luck that my heart got problems since surgery and what Cardiologist insists on - not good for my back pain.

Tony,
I am on Percocet for couple of years by now and alwasy worked well for me, I had no problem.
Now since I have heart problem, my Cardiologist put me on Beta-Blockers and Coumadin. Since Tylenol contributes to thinning the blood, I can't take Tylenol in any form . And since Beta-Blockers can affect liver and Tylenol well knowin to do liver damage too - once again I can't take Tylenol.

But guess what? They tried Oxicodone on me , had terrible reaction. I am allergic to Morphine - can't have meds with it either. So I decided whatever be - went back to my Percocet. I have to take care of my pain no matter what and pray that everything will be fine...

Hi there. Sorry I didnt respond before now, but I am out of the country on vacation and popped on here for awhile.

I too am allergic to everything and lots of medications. I STRONGLY suggest you watch your blood levels. My boyfriend was on the coumadine.. nasty med it is.

I stumbled onto an ALCHEMIST PHARMACY in my area. This is an excellent resource for you to find one near you. This group can create a medication made especially for your needs. And they make them in varying forms too, such as ointments even. The alchemist I spoke to told me they work with your doctors to create a med that will work effectively for you.

I got lucky that I have not had to go this route YET, but I know where this guy is should I ever need to.

Seriously check into this. Hope this helps you some. all the best to you.
