Taking Coreg CR (Heart Disorders board)

12th September 2007
[QUOTE=Engeniero;3205135]Anybody out there taking Coreg CR pills. I just started and I am clueless on what I am supposed to be looking for on results.

Thanks

I am. I am taking the Coreg cr 40 mg. once daily.Coreg is a miracle drug in that it can lengthen life. It makes the heart pump stronger while slowing down the heartbeat and blood pressure. I don't have any bad reactions to it, so I'm very happy about that. More info:
COREG CR is a once-a-day heart medication that is part of a class of drugs known as beta-blockers. COREG CR treats people who have or had one or more of the following: high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, heart failure, and/or a heart attack that reduced how well the heart pumps.

If you have been diagnosed with heart failure or have had a heart attack that reduced how well your heart pumps, COREG CR can strengthen your heart and provide daily cardio-protection.*

I have been taking Coreg for more than 3 years along with other medication after diagnosed with heart failure.

You can look for Coreg to reduce your heart rate as a beta blocker, but unlike other beta blockers there is component called an ACE inhibitor (inhibits angiotensin that constricts vessels) to relax vessels and should lower blood pressure as a result. I also take an ACE inhibitor (lisinopril).

Coreg as a beta blocker reduces the effects of excitement and physical exertion, stress, etc. on the heart and it lowers the force of contractions. So it is a treatment for some arrhythmias, pounding heart, palpitations, etc., but contraindicated if blood pressure is normal or lower.

For stronger heart beats I take Digoxin.

After years of medication my heart pumps normally and normal in size. You don't comment on your diagnosis, but I assume it is heart failure as Coreg lowers the heart's afterload and provides relief to an otherwise overworked heart.

Hi Christina,

Cardiomopathy means there is a problem with the heart muscle itself usually causing a dysfunction of the left ventricle's pumping ability or filling.

If the filling phase is dysfunctional it may indicate thickening or stiffing of heart's wall. Usually and older person's heart disorder.

Being treated with BB and ACE inhibitor strongly indicates your cardiomyopathy is due to stretching (dilation) of the left ventricle chamber. The medication can resolve the dilation by reducing the stress and demand on the heart and return your heart to normal size and function.

I just started taking Coreg CR (40 mg). At first, it completely wiped me out and still does to a degree but I'm handling it better now. I had to start taking it at night or else all I would do is sleep all day.

However, I can tell it really helps my condition.

I have high blood pressure and coronary artery spasms.

I'm much better now that I'm on Coreg. I was taking the Coreg CR 40mg. but it was priced at $128. so my cardiologist put me on the equivalent dose of Coreg 12.5mg. twice daily. I do feel wiped out on Coreg CR and Coreg. Right now it's not but 9pm. and I'm ready for bed:D

I am taking 10 mg of Coreg CR per day. I had a heart attack in June of 03. I have CAD and some indications of heart failure. This is my 6th day on Coreg CR. I took atenolol, another beta blocker, for over 6 years and it suddenly caused drug induced Lupus in me.

I have read that it takes 1-2 weeks for the full effect of this medicine to take effect. So far it is not keeping my BP low enough on it's on. I am having to take an ARB, Avapro that I stopped a while back, due to intolerance of this drug class, to properly control my BP.

Over the years I have noticed that I can take a 1/2 dosage of a med and get the same effect. Maybe some of you would feel better and control your BP and heart rate just as well, with less Coreg CR or Coreg. Always speak with your doctor of course.

I was wondering how many of you/us were prescribed this medicine by a doctor other than a cardiologist?

I think you're supposed to be looking for a stronger, slower heartbeat, and lower bp. It helped me alot. Some people have side effects but the only one I had was a little tired, dizziness and some weight gain. Coreg is considered by some medical professionals to be a miracle drug in that it prolongs life in many cases.
