How can I help my daughter? (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

29th April 2008
I'm a mother of three ( 2 are ADD ) in our part of the world we have no support, even my husband since he can't read English has no clue on how to help, my biggest problem is after my kids where diagnosed with ADD I discovered I had it to but in our school days we didn't have a name for it and I managed to change my self after falling in love with the piano to be an A student, it seems once we ADDers find something we can master we addict success. However with my 11 year old daughter she is not into anything yet, and I have no clue on how to help her with her studies she is starting to fail maths and gets her teachers frustrated from day dreaming which she can't control. I am thinking of seeing a biofeedback doctor that claims it really help children focus, but what else I can explain what a Diameter is 100 times and still see her confused. I wish their is something we can do as parents that will make our ADD kids happier in school. I was advised to use concerta extended, did anyone use it?

My own experience with Concerta was somewhat underwhelming, but I know and I know of a number of people that have used it with great success. It's definately worth a try.

I'm honestly not familiar with the idea of biofeedback, so I'm of no help there, but there are other things you can do to help your kids, including altering and controlling their diet, providing structure at home and ensuring that they get sufficient sleep. I would consult with my doctor about these non-medicinal options as part of an overall treatment plan, to work in concert (pardon the pun ;)) with the Concerta.
