Ritalin-like and appetite (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

9th September 2004
My son has been on adderall since he was 6. He was originally put on ritalin when he was 5 and lost a ton of weight so we were very careful. He also takes clonidine with his adderall. Our solution has been that he eats a big breakfast...as much as he wants, because he has Obsessive Compulsive Dissorder also, and then takes his meds. He usually isn't hungry for lunch which is ok. He doesn't take any more meds until bed. By dinner his meds have worn off enough to allow him to eat again and he is maintaining a normal weight. He is now 12. He takes clonidine at bedtime again to help him sleep. I hope this helps. Also, we didn't really get help from a GP, we had to go to a Psychiatrist before we were able to get the right meds for him. Don't let them starve her! Good luck!
