Hi everyone. My name is Laura and I am 31 years old. Last year about 2 months after I weaned my youngest daughter who was 15 months old then I began having night sweats. After several months of these I went to see my family dr who did some blood tests and said everything looked normal and I should see an endocrinologist to see if something hormonal is going on. So I went to see an endo about a month ago and he did a bunch of blood tests and put me on Clonidine to try and stop the night sweats. Unfortunately I had a really bad reaction to that and ended up in the ER feeling like I was going to pass out. Turned out it was lowering my blood pressure as that is what it is usually prescribed for so I quit taking it. So yesterday I went in to see the endo expecting him to tell me some of my hormone levels are off or something. I was really shocked and surprised when he told me I have Hashimotos disease. He told me that it is a thyroid problem where one number is too high and the other too low. Being clueless about the thyroid I really didn't know what questions to ask or anything. I just wrote down the name of what it is and he gave me a prescription. I am going back in 3 weeks for bloodwork to see how the medicine is working and then will see him in 4 weeks.
My question for all of you is: what do I need to ask him the next time I am there? Do I need to know my T3 and T4 numbers and TSH (is that right)? I have been looking on the net at alot of stuff and it is all so confusing. Is this something that I am going to have for the rest of my life. Could this also explain the fact of why I am so tired all the time. I feel like I could sleep all day and night and still be tired.
OK that's it for now. I feel like I have so many questions and so much to learn but I will start with those. Thanks in advance for any advice and support. I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed right now and don't know where to start. Any good sites to look at would be appreciated too. Thanks again.
