What's Worked and What Hasn't? (Acne board)

26th November 2004
What hasn't worked:
-Retin-A: This medication made my face peel. However, it does depend on the strength that your dermatologist prescribes.
-Purpose soap: Although it didn't make my breakouts worse, it didn't improve them.
-10% benzoyl peroxide acne treatments: BEWARE if you have dry skin. Even if you have oily skin, if you put too much of this stuff on in any given area, it can make spots on your skin DARK. It's EXTREMELY powerful...maybe a little too much for me.
-Stridex Day & Night: This product clogged my pores.
-Noxema (the original cream): This product actually made my face worse.
-Salicylic acid overnight acne patches: Didn't do a DARN thing.
-Neutrogena Multi-vitamin acne treatment: It made my skin a reddish color. Not too attractive.

What HAS worked:
-Clearasil 3 in 1 Acne cleanser: I am currently using this. It does not dry my face out, but does a good job of getting rid of oil.
-Eucerin Clear Skin Formula Daily Control & Care Moisture Creme : I'm using this right now, and it works WONDERS! It's oil free, and although it's a moisturizer, it not overly moisturizing. This product is perfect for people with combination skin, such as mine.
-Cleocin lotion: It worked well in improving acne, but it made my face slightly oily, so I discontinued use.

What Hasn't Work:

ProActiv (kept acne under control for a while, but never was happy with my skin, after i stopped i had my worst breakout ever!)

BioMedic Products
Stress (obsessing over skin)
lack of sleep
sweating activities
other stuff i didn't try long enough to really comment on because of the initial breakout

Kinda Worked

Chemical Peels
BP products like Brevoxyl 4% (very dry skin, fewer breakouts, but more severe)
Cosmedix Clear spot treatment
Cosmiedix Purity & Benefit Clean
popping (must be careful to be gentle and pop only zits that are ready and mature - apply neosporin or bp after)
Washing Hygiene (shampoo hair, avoid face, and then wash face)
Changing pillow cases every 2 -5 days
Clean face towels (use all 4 sides at different times)
Not touching your face
Avoid Foods that can drip on your face
No Caffeine, Chocolate
Not too look at the mirror during the day except in the "good" mirrors

What worked:

Accutane (had to stop after 6 weeks, gave me 6 weeks of clear skin but it came back, tho less severe)

What I'm doing now:
Green Tea
Paula's Choice Products
Searching for moisturizers to prevent drrry skin
