Must be allergies. What good OTC drugs (Allergies board)

24th November 2007
Hey, new to this site. I've been suffering with allergies for as long as I can remember. Sneezing, sore throat, congestion every morning, etc. I tried many prescription drugs like Allegra, Clarinex, Zyrtec. My doctor would give me samples to use, but if they had no samples and I had no insurance, forget it! Way too expensive! They did help but my Mom told me my father, who suffered the same allergies, would take the OTC med Chlor-trimeton. So I tried it and I'm hooked. They have a 12 hr one and a 4 hr one. I take the 12 hr everyday, sometimes twice a day, and it makes such a difference! The chlor-trimeton does work. I don't get sleepy with it and I can buy it at Walmart! It's a win-win! I do work in a medical office so what you guys were saying about the generic Zyrtec, you still should be able to get it with your insurance company. Just ask your doctor to write it as the generic name and not Zyrtec. Most insurance companies are pro-generic rather than name brand anyway. Good luck!
