   Mucous! (Allergies board)

17th June 2005
Ok i'll tell you how it started. I was out at a renaissnace festival 3 weeks ago and not long after my first alcoholic drink I got a headache that lasted all day, it didnt bother me enough to not have a good time but it was there. That night I started getting a lot of mucous building up in the back of my throat and i could barely sleep that night. Next 2 days were sore throats with low fever. Now I just have this constant need to swallow and a feeling of mucous in the back of my throat. No sneezing, watery or itchy eyes, no headaches, no fevers, no sore throats. When I do spit this up its clear. I went to doc early this week and he didnt say it was post nasal drip but I'm kinda thinking thats what he thought, he gave me some clarinex, a shot of some stuff to fix the inflammation and a nasal spray. Well i've had that shot before with nasal congestion and it fixed it right up, not this time. This is more annoying than anything. I'm also getting tired of my doctor as well and will find a new one, only problem is I dont have insurance currently and he always gives me a discount. I am a 27 year old male that does not smoke but do goto smoky bars alot. I'm really hoping that this mucous is PND and that will go away soon. I am just growing more nervous with it not going away after the shot.

Thanks for your time!!

Oh also i forgot to add that when i do try and blow my nose i can feel my ears wanting to clog up as well. Only time i'll attempt to blow my nose is after eating and drinking with a coke. Seems my nose runs for a TAD bit and i need to blow it.

hmm I have a feeling the drink was just a coincidence. It sounds to me like you have allergies, and they are being aggrevated latley. Maybe just the fact you were outside most of the day at the fair.

Is the Clarinex and nosespray helping you?

No they dont seem to do ANYTHING at all. Thats what makes me somewhat believe its not my allergys doing it. But what else could cause this mucous constantly? I would think the nasal spray would temporarily stop it but it doesnt.

Hmmm Well Clarinex is a funny drug. It works great for some people, but for others, like me, they might as well be taking a sugar pill. Still it seems odd that the spray isn't helping. How long have you been using it? It takes a couple of weeks for the sprays to work.

Hi Ozzeran,

Yes these are all the symptoms I have. If you do not have the globus (something stuck in the throat) sensation or any of the others it looks like you do not have LPR. The mucous could be PND from allergies or sinus problems.

heh thats good news then. i'll continue taking clarinex and see how that goes. What were your exact symptoms again?
