Post Surgical Question (Back Problems board)

24th August 2007
Has anyone ever had oozing from your wound after surgery ? Sorry it sounds gross but when my wife took the bandage off there was this yellow pus oozing out .
I didn't think anything of it until my Dr.'s nurse took off the bandage and said Oh wow it's draining ! I said is that a problem and she went and got my surgeon who came in and cleaned it up and told me to keep an eye on it and gave me a script of Cephalexin 500MG to take every 6 hours for infection.

Its pretty disgusting looking but no red streaks or hot spots ? This morning it was leaking again , my underwear was wet over my wound. I'm not worried about it just wondered if anyone else experienced this before ?

Shawley,
Make sure that you take those antibiotics. I had drainage from my surgical wounds both times. I have had to take antibiotics. It is normal for it to drain for a few days, but at the same time, it should stop on it's own in a few days. In the meantime, take the antibiotics to be on the safe side, just as directed. You don't want to get an infection into the area.
Better to be safe than sorry.
