New member with painful lump (Cancer: Breast board)

21st June 2007
Hello:

I am a new member and will be searching the posts for some education. I am 49, found a lump a few weeks ago, last week it got very painful and tender. You could see it and the pain was throbbing and stabbing. I couldn't work due to pain. I had a bacterial infection at the same time, most likely sinuses. I was put on Cephalexin 2000 mg per day. I saw my doc on Tuesday, she ordered an immediate diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. Today I had biopsies done. The mammo discovered another small nodule/lesion, so they were able to biopsy both.

I am scared to death, but I know there is nothing I can do until I get results. The radiologist assured me he would get results on Monday and get them to my doc, I see her on Tuesday.

My doctor's comments were: it's movable and round. At times I have noticed the skin being red and looking bruised in that spot, I can see small veins, but today that wasn't noticable. Two days after being on Cephalexin, the pain was almost gone and the tenderness was much improved.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? My sister felt they should have done a core biopsy, but my doctor did say she will most likely recommend a lumpectomy no matter what, since it is painful at times. It is on the inside lower portion. They were calling it 3 o'clock position and they also said one was 6cm from the nipple and the other was 10 cm.

I will post results when I get them, but I would like to be prepared. I saw a resident at the clinic and she was perplexed, my own doctor is a professor there. The resident was just doing a preliminary exam.

Thanks.

Nancy
