Adverse reaction to an antibiotic (Lyme Disease board)

21st January 2007
I had a strange reaction when I had been taking Doxycycline 400 mg for nearly 2 months. Got a strange rash over most of my body. My dermatologist thought Leukoclastic Vasculitis and ordered a bunch of tests. Nothing unusual, thank God (as some of the possible causes were pretty awful). My new LLMD said take a month off to let my immune system calm down. He put me on Minocycline (a cousin of Doxy), and within one day, the rash started to come back. Took nearly 2 weeks to dissipate the first time, and about a week the second time.

He put me on Benicar to reduce the inflammation and cytokine effects, and I got a few spots which come on, and fade within 2-3 days. He has me on that still, and Cefzil with Tindamax. I still get a few spots here and there, but he now thinks that the initial rash was a drug reaction, and the spots now are dieoff rashes.

Bummer, since I seemed to be tolerating the Doxy so well...and it was working. But now the Cefzil has kicked in and I can work/function again, aside from some minor herxing.
