Treatment For Benign Prostate Hyperplasia?? (Urology board)

23rd March 2005
I Have Tried Most Of The Treatments Recently Had Thermal Procedure Didn't Help Much But I Have A DuAL Problem With My Bladder Not Contracting Well. Some Of The Alpha Blockers Help Like Cardura Or Flomax And Uroxatrol Which Are More Specific. The Turp Procedure Can Possible Leave You Incontinent,
And OR Impotent. Also Retrograde Ejaculation Is Very Common.
The Thermal Is Usually Given First, Then Up To The Laser. I Don't Think The Turp Procedure Is Used As Much Anymore. Try The Herbs 1st Then The Drugs And Move On If Need To.

From my readings, the TURP is the " Gold Standard" . The other procedures such as Laser and Microwave are new and there are reports that results don`t last. The patient often needs to go back in the hospital within`a short time period ( 5-8 years) and have the procedure done once again. Patient reports regarding the Microwave and Laser procedure have been mixed. One person I read about reported a need to wear diapers afterwards and the date of his post on the message board was over 6 months after his procedure ! Retrograde Ejaculation from the TURP is in fact a side effect, however, there is no real loss of sensation during Orgasm. The only problem R.E presents is when the man is younger and desires children, however, most men having the TURP are past the age when children are desired. The risks of becoming Incontinent and or Impotent are quite small actually and if one reads about the procedure, they will see that normally this occurs in cases where the man is having problems with Erectile Disfunction or Incontinence beforehand. There have been cases though where the TURP has actually helped these conditions. As with any other medical procedure you need to investigate and educate yourself beforehand and there are side effects associated with the majority. I do agree with the statement to try Herbs and drugs first. I have had much success using Herbs for certain conditions but even then, a person needs to research the Herb totally and know when to seek medical advice should the herb fail to work in a timely manner.
