I had my first AF about 3 weeks ago. I had to be cardioverted and they put me on cardizem. I had a very difficult time with it ..they gave me sleeping pills because of extreme anxiety. Now, my feet are swelling from the cardizem. Now they want to put me on a water pill too!
I became very upset two days ago and started doing research. The more information I understand - the less anxiety. So..from what I have concluded, unless you have heart disease, HB or prexisting heart problems..if you suddenly have an AF it is classified a "lone" afib. That's my story..no heart disease, no high blood pressure. I HAVE had for years..problems with depression and anxiety.
Therefore, I did find that when a person is depressed or anxious certain chemicals in the brain aren't working correctly. Then those mixed up signals are sent to the heart and "AF"! I have decided to try and come off the cardizem and try to negate these afibs with certain antioxidants, ie. magnesium. AND I am starting therapy to learn ways of dealing with stress and anxiety. The Doctors can say that they do not always know what causes them but I think that sometimes...you have to try and figure it out for yourself.
I wish all of you good luck in finding "your" answers and really appreciate your support that you give here at this site. :)
