Significantly increased blood pressure whilst taking combined pill? (Birth Control board)

26th January 2006
I've never been on femulen, or yasmin, but I was taking Mircette, and my blood pressure went up to 160/110. I went off the pill, and even after being off it for a while, my pressure still didnt go down. they prescribed me a blood pressure pill (cardizem) and now i'm back to normal.
I was given the option for a progestin-only pill, or also depo, but I really wanted to get away from hormones in general. So I looked into the Paragard IUD, got a doctor who would do it, and so far I *love* it.
The downside of progestin-only pills are that you have to be really careful to take it at the SAME time everyday. If you're even 3 hours late in taking it, you need a backup. But if you take it perfectly at the same time, its just as effective as the regular pill. Also, with progestin-only pills, you might spot for a while, and/or your period might disappear completely after a few months. Some people love this idea of no periods, but it would bother me. I would need the psychological security of knowing I wasnt pregnant every month. (The paragard IUD has no hormones so I get my normal period, although heavier).

Oh: also, with progestin only pills, you need to take one pill a day, everyday. There is no "week off" like with yasmin. its continuous hormones.
