canyondweller-
I was first diagnosed by getting dizzy and not feeling well at work, I was given an ekg which showed tachy and a-fib. I was rushed to the er and told not a-fib, but sinus arrhythmia. My pcp told me to come right in and he found my thyroid enlarged and ordered an ultrasound.
Meanwhile back at work, my boss couldn't let it go, and put me on a 24 hour halter monitor, which is when we found the spikes in pulse during my sleep. It got as high as 180. Most recently I have been over 200.
Part of my work up included a 24 hour urine, halter monitor, various blood levels, metabolic panels, ect. They wanted to rule out MENS My mother was just diagnosed terminal with it and turns out its 50% heriditary.
They started me on toprol xl, which worked great but I developed low labido and only being married 6 years found that unacceptable. They switched me to calan sr, this one shut down my bowels. They reduced the med by half and it doesn't work. They want to try coreg next, but cant get the insurance company to approve it.
A couple of aquaintances of mine, one surgeon and an internal med spec. both looked at my u/s results and agreed that the mass next to my jugular and carotoid could cause pressure and arrhythmia.
Since my original diagnosis I have developed 5 other masses in my neck, I went for a pet scan last friday and meet with my surgeon next week, hopfully he will have good news. My CT came back possible malignant, they are trying to rule out a primary tumor. This is my second surgeon, the insurance company didn't like the last ones diagnosis, he dismissed me as cat scratch fever and I have never had it. No mono or TB either, so they have pretty much ruled out viral origins.
Since the origianl thyroid issue, I have found a breast mass, and ovarian mass and uteran mass, gyn says nothing to worry about, to deal with the neck issues first, and follow up with him after they figure out why I have lymphnodes going crazy.
Sorry this is so long, what started out as simple dizziness, turned into this whole big thing.
Hope you get well guickly,
angeleyes
