burning facial skin (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

19th January 2005
last night, after i had washed my face with the body shop's tea tree oil wash, which i've been using for about 2 months or more and never gave me problems, i used mary kay's benzoyl peroxide (5%) gel on my face.

starting a week ago, i've used mary kay's toner, which has salicylic acid in it, and when that dried up, i used neutrogena's facial lotion with alpha-hydroxy acid in it. after that, i used mary kay's gel, mentioned above.

i noticed my skin getting peely and extremely dry around my mouth (i don't have dry skin, to begin with), so last night, i just used the benzoyl peroxide, like i said.

last night, after i did what i mentioned above, my skin started burning VERY badly. it got all red and i put cool water on it, but it wouldn't stop. after about a half hour, i took 1 advil and it soothed after washing my face with tea tree oil wash again.

if it didn't stop, it was so bad i was ready to go to the ER at 12 in the morning. that's how bad it was.

does anyone know why this happened? i was thinking it could be because i've been using 3 different things (not sure what to call them exactly, acids?): benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acid.

this is also my first time posting, so i'm very sorry if i'm doing this wrong.

i appreciate any help. thank you, in advance!

thank you so much for your replies!

fortunately, the burning's stopped after using all 3. now, i just use benzoyl peroxide. i know never to do that again.

thanks again, especially for your response, feelbad!
