mixing booze with benzos (Addiction & Recovery board)

27th February 2006
hi Poison, from everything I have heard or read it can be VERY deadly. I am sure there are likely statistics on it somewhere online, maybe at Professor Heather Ashton's benzodiazepine website where you will find more information than you ever dreamed possible to exist on benzodiazepine research, much written in layman terminology as the goal is to educate the general public as well as medical professionals. Just copy/past the following into Google ---> Professor Heather Ashton benzodiazepines alcohol risks.

On April 14, 1975, Karen Ann Quinlan was 21 years old when she collapsed at a party after swallowing alcohol and the tranquilizer Valium, a benzodiazepine. While doctors saved her life, she suffered brain damage and lapsed into a "persistent vegetative state." She remained in a coma for almost 10 years in a New Jersey nursing home until her 1985 death. Her story can be found on the internet by typing her name into Google since she was the first major right-to-die litigation case, preceeding Terry Schiavo.
