I am a very long-term, low dose xanax user and was horrified to learn that using xanax can cause brain shrinkage!! Withdrawal symptoms include hypersensitivity to (sound, light, touch, taste, and smell) and perceptual distortions (e.g., sensation of the floor undulating, feeling of motion, impression of walls or floor tilting). There also appears to be a higher incidence than usually seen in anxiety of depersonalisation, derealisation, paraesthesiae, and extreme dysphoria, an amalgam of anxiety, depression, nausea, malaise, and depersonalisation. Visual hallucinations, distortion of body image, psychotic reactions, formication, (feeling of bugs crawling under skin) muscle twitching and considerable loss of weight are also described during benzodiazepine withdrawal !!
