Giving in, going to doctor; thoughts? (Acne board)

8th April 2003
Well, after trying to clear my acne on my own for 2 years now, I am going back to the doctor AGAIN. I have realized that healthy living, eating, excercising, and drinking water are not curing my constant outbreaks at the age of 29. It's all I can think about, and I hate having something in my life that I can't control. It's become an addiction, but unfortunately I can't cure it on my own. :(

My doctor gave me Benzamycin last August, which is too harsh for my sensitive skin (I am not an oily teenager). He then gave me doxycycline, which I only took for 3 weeks because it was causing me some weird side effects (rash like breakouts on chest, etc).

So what should I ask of my doctor? I am really against topical applications, because I also get scalp acne, and obviously topicals won't help that. Should I push for another antibiotic, or just ask for Accutane?

I have had enough, I am willing to try anything now. I plan on asking about the Plexion cleanser that some here have mentioned, but it's more for rosacea. I noticed on their website that it has sulfur, so it might even be too harsh for my skin.

At my wits end here.

Kev
