Quote from monarchangel:Does anyone know how to get rid of a muscle spasm in the lower back without going to the dr?
Don't go the route of health stuff less you check with your family doctor. Some people react differently on it than others. I hate to say it but research has shown that it isn't the right answer to take health pills just to solve an issue. If you're going through muscle spasms and they're extreme it could be something more than just an injury.
Have you tried the mix of ice and heat to solve the issue? One of the things that I was told from pain management doctor is to go that route when they get extreme. The cold worked better for me because it shrunk the muscles down; heat didn't work at all. For some however it does the trick.
It was suggested to me that if you're not seeing a doctor trying over the counter medicine such as Bayer Back and Body can work however you want to watch how much and how often you take it because it will thin your blood flow. Before my back went to the extreme it's at, that stuff actually did work for me.
Another thing that can help is stretching your muscles. There are a few places you can visit online that will give you a few ideas on doing things that will help stretch your lower back muscles. It will hurt however, the only way it's going to get better is working out the muscles in order to make things better.
If all else fails, take a visit to your friendly doctor should the symptoms persist or get worse. If you've done something that caused your back to start spasming in the first place it could be an underlying cause and something more. If memory serves me correct, the back supports your body weight 75% when standing and I think it's 25% when sitting; can't recall where I found that online.
The back isn't something to mess with because that is what supports your body - not the other way around. I hope you feel better soon!
