Cause of DVT (Blood Disorders board)

29th December 2005
Hi all. I am fairly new to this particular board. I have posted on the site for back problems. I have multiple problems. Here is a summary of my medical conditions.

1. Age 35 found that I was born with one kidney
2. 1989 hospitalized for bulging discs/traction
3. 1994 surgery of the lumbar area for herniated discs
4. 1995 surgery of the cervical area for stenosis
5. 1997 surgery on lumbar area required instrumentation
6. 2000 surgery on the cervical area required instrumentation
7. 2003 diagnosed with diabetes - blood sugar was almost 1600 !
8. 2003 surgery of the left leg for DVT
9. 2005 surgery spinal cord stimulator implant for pain management

As to the DVT there was a question on the cause of the problem. Initially before surgery, I knew there was a problem such as in walking but I thought it was from back problems. Before surgery was done I was told of possible amputation. Luckily the leg was saved. Recently the question was can I come off my medication. At first I was on Coumadin then changed to Plavix with Bayer aspirin.

The feeling is that the cause of the DVT was an elevated Homocysteine level (B12 and folic acid). I am on Foltx and my blood work is almost normal. Has anyone ever been told the cause of their blood clots. Any information on this is appreciated.

Allan
