Well I'm glad to hear she is doing better, that is a plus. I was tried on Lipitor in 2000, and withing 3 1/2 months was sick as all get out, mostly GI problems, but also alot of tiredness. Dr. let me try staying off for 2 months and I felt better, but then shoved me on Baycol...OH BOY, needless to say the fun really began. For 6 months I was under a GI drs. care, cause I couldn't eat solid foods, had no appetite at all, and lived on crackers, baby food and ginger ale for 5 of those 6 months. I also had such severe weakness in the legs, I could barely make it out to my mailbox and back, and had a heck of a time trying to climb a lousy 8 stairs to my back door.
I got so aggravated I told the dr. these fool things are horrid and I wouldn't be surprised if they were off the market soon. His answer was ...NO way, they were the best thing since sliced bread. Hmmm, 8 months after I tossed those fool Baycol pills in the trash, they were off the market. Like I told him, geez, I never got sick from sliced bread. Needless to say we didn't get along after that. I have tried Welchol and a few other things, none of which agreed with me, so now I refuse to take anything. Sometimes my numbers are pretty good, other times they suck, but that is the chance I have to take. Hubby was on Lipitor for almost 7 years. He was having all sorts of problems, but we knew nothing of side effects, had no computer, so it just went on and on till he had to retire 3 years early due to PN and muscle problems. Boy I sure wish I had a computer and knew then what I know now, NO way would he have stayed on those things.
Now we do the best we can with diet and exercise, and no we don't deprive ourselves of all the foods we like, just do everything in moderation. Even his cardio guy told us, if meds. take the quality of your life away, then U shouldn't be on them.
Best wishes to your mom, and may U all have a splendid holiday...
