UTI, again ??? Please help! (General Health board)

24th July 2008
Hi,

I saw my dr. on Monday for a bladder infection. She gave me Bactrim to take 2x/day for 3 days. I have definitely been feeling better throughout the week. This morning I took my last Bactrim, and I still feel fine, but this afternoon, I started to feel like I needed to go to the bathroom every few minutes, which is how I felt when this all started. The only difference is it doesn't hurt when I go like it did before, but I think that might be because I have been drinking so much water. Is this common in bladder infections as they begin to heal, or possibly a side effect of the Bactrim, or did the bactrim not do the trick and my infection is starting all over again???

Thanks,
mo

Hey there!

I've had many UTI's *only 21 years old* kinda crazy, but I've always noticed I never feel completely better till at least a week after taking all the meds I'm prescribed. It kicks in little by little, the fact that it doesn't hurt when you go is a very good sign. I still went to the bathroom a bunch of times even when I was taking the pills. I think it's normal. Drink some cranberry juice, that helps as well.

Bactrim is usually prescribed for 10 days, not three. Cipro is a 3 day med. If you were given Bactrim, personally I think it should have been for 10 days, not 3.
I'd call the doctor and let her know your bladder is still bothering you.

Feel better soon,

JB
