Doctor says I have a staph infection (General Health board)

9th July 2008
pinkpixies,

I had no idea staph was actually common. So I assume that MRSA is not the only form? In any case, it's a relief knowing that this is a common infection. Thank you for the reassurance.

My doctor took a culture from ny nose and she also said my sinuses in my nose were swollen but had a tiny bit of buildup. So, the infection is either in my nose or my sinuses. Right now my doctor has got me on Bactrim for about three weeks, and I'm hoping it works. Otherwise I'm going to have to wait about three months before seeing her again (I will be going back to college in a few days and I have no doctor in CollegeTown).

Regular staph infection in the nose can transmit to other body parts, so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you blow your nose.

I was advised by my pharmacist to prevent the spread of staph from my nose and to help get rid of it, to use Bacitracin cream, a very light coating inside nostrils, once or twice a day.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor. Tell them that you are on Bactrim and see if they think this might be helpful.

Lindaru :)
