Scared of taking new meds (General Health board)

4th July 2008
Recently, my doctor prescribed me three medications to fight against what she says could be an allergy problem and/or potential sinus infection. She prescribed me Allegra for my allergies, Flonase to clear my sinuses, and something called Bactrim or Bactrum to get rid of any infection I may still have in my head.

I always read the little pamphlets that come with medications every time I am given something new, and to be honest, I'm a little scared to take the Allegra and the Bactrim. I know Allegra is pretty commonly prescribed for allergy issues, but it is unsettling to me to know it can possibly cause an irregular heartbeat. And the Bactrim has the small potential to cause a fatal allergic reaction, seizures, and dizziness, among other glorious symptoms. You can probably understand why I am anxious about taking these.

I realize my chances of being that one unlucky person who has the allergic reaction to either of these is very small, but no matter how many times I say that to myself, in the very back of my mind I still know there's a tiny chance I might be that one person who has that bad reaction.

I hate to ask, but has anyone ever had a really really bad experience with Allegra or Bactrim? The Flonase I am not worried about because I already tried it and I feel fine, but I am concerned about the other two. I trust my doctor, but I can't calm down over these and I know I have to take this stuff.
