New and have questions (Addiction & Recovery board)

27th September 2004
I am now 16 days clean from hydrocodone. I have been through detox and am now in outpatient therapy. I got started on the pills with a bad tooth and then with neck and arm pain. I have 2 bulging discs and spurs in my neck, I also have severe ulnar nerve entrapment in both my arms, along with severe endometriosis. So, needless to say, I have a lot of chronic pain.

I am on neurontin and baclofen, does anyone know if either of these are mood altering drugs? They seem to ease my pain a little.

There are some days that I am not in a 8 or 10 pain, but there are some days that are definately a 10. It seems that now that I am off the pills, all of my true pains are back. I am through the withdrawals, I am just having genuine pain now.

Will I ever be able to take pain med's again? Will I ever have the strength not to abuse them?

Thanks,
AntJay

Neurontin works for nerve pain. I suffer from chronic pain as well with very similiar issues that you have in the C4and C5 and CTS (both hands).

I only take the Neurontin and have been taking it for a few years now. It is not metabolized by the liver and very little by the kidneys. It is meant to eliminate seizures ,but has helped many with moderate nerve pain. True, lawsuits are being made for "off-label" use . A lot of OTC meds are also off label use. For example, Benadryl. It is an anhistamine, but a lot of people use it for sleep.

Don't worry too much about it. You will be fine. Sorry couldn't help about Baclofen.
