   Follicuitis (Skin Problems board)

13th March 2004
Quote from kirra:
I have been getting one or two red lumps in my armpits, they are really sore and make me feel unwell when they come up. They usually last a couple of days, they are not itchy. I went to a doctor but they had gone away by the time I seen her, she said it would be follicuitis and there is nothing you can do about it. She just gave me a script for some antibiotic cream for if they come back. Well suprise suprise they are back and very painful. Can someone help me with some information about Follicuitis and how they dealt with it. Also is it contagious.

Thanks guys

Folliculitis may arise as hairs regrow after shaving, waxing or plucking.

Make sure the infected area is clean thoroughly with soap and water before applying medication.

With all medications use as prescribed by your doctor.

Topical antibiotics such as: bacitracin and polymyxinb

For recurrent infection: systemic antibiotics.
