   Atrophic Rhinitis~Plz help (Allergies board)

12th December 2003
Can someone plz tell me how to help this condition. My nose is ruining my life! My Otolaryngologist's solution to everything is corticosteroid nasal sprays...which dries up my nose even worse. Is there anything i can do myself to treat this or should i seek another ENT specialist? 90% of my sense of smell is gone and this dryness is driving me MAD! I tried irrigations, saline mists, nasal gels, humidifyers with no success. I read that vitamins A and D are used as a spray to promote mucous secretion and also bacitracin to treat this. Maybe i should try and get those. Any ideas?....Anyone?
Thx

I looked up Atrophic Rhinitis and the article said that the condition might be caused by bacteria such as Klebsiella ozaenae, Proteus, Escherichia coli and Bacillus pertusis. I think that most sinus problems are caused by nasty invaders of the sinuses.

These bacterium can cause a lot of damage to the sinuses. The longer that those bacterium are allowed to flourish in the soft tissues of your sinuses, the worse your condition may get. So, step one would be to get rid of the harmful bacteria.

You asked for "any ideas... anyone", so here it is:

Have your read my thread on how I fixed my sinus problems? I was able to cure my chronic sinus infections and other miseries that had given me nightmares for over forty years. I have also achieved wide open and comfortable sinuses. In the past two years of my using the "upside down" flooding type of irrigation, I have found it safe and effective. My sense of smell is also very slowly returning.

I have no idea what my technique would do to your sinuses. Your sinuses are probably very sensitive, and the peroxide and baking soda mixture would probably burn quite a bit. It certain has burned mine quite a few times. I believe that my sinuses are healed now, and the mixture barely bothers my sinuses anymore.

I am not a doctor, so if you were interested, it would be best to check with your doctor before using it.

Any thoughts about this?
