31 yo, Day 2 post-tonsillectomy - definitely worse (Ear, Nose & Throat board)

11th April 2007
I, too, am 31 years old. I had my tonsillectomy (no Adenoidectomy) yesterday, April 10. The surgery went very smoothly. They kept me until I could swallow ice chips and ginger ale. They had me on morphine and delaudid. I was really dizzy, so when I needed more pain meds, they gave me a little Fentanyl. That didn't decrease the dizziness so I waited it out. I left after about 75 minutes of waiting.

They gave me a prescription of liquid azithromycin and these horse pills of Vicodin. There was no way I'd be able to swallow that so I spent even more money (thankfully tax-deductible) on liquid vicodin. My husband is such a sweetie.

I had no idea what I'd be able to eat, so I had purchased ice cream and mushy things. Turns out, you can't have dairy. So my husband drove all over the world looking for just the right jello.

This morning, I had a small cup of coffee-flavored ice cream and a Starbucks Frappuccino. The milkiness does cause more mucus, which I chase with water. I might try a soft pretzel later on.

In terms of pain, it just feels like a really sore throat, like strep throat. Yet it's not as bad because I have no fever, no ear ache... I feel just fine!

The ENT said that the fourth day is the worst day. We'll have to see!
