Early stage Parkinson's (Parkinson's Disease board)

12th December 2007
Hello, My name is Tom. I have been diagnosed since Oct 1.I have seen one nuerologist twice for initial diagnosis, then MRI, then results of MRI. Then I saw a motion disorder specialist and confirmed PD. He put me on Azilect and incouraged me to walk a lot and join a gym and take creatine as well.

Hello Ms T, I am also new to this board but haven't checked in awhile. I am 61yr old male and married AND newly diagnosed. Oct 1 and 23 to same neuro and got a parkinsons diagnosis. Nov 19 to a motion disorder specialist and got confirmed. My only symptons are intermittent tremble in right hand, loss of smell and my right arm doesn't swing as naturally when I walk.

Right now It prevents me from doing nothing. It trmbles more when tired, stressed or nervous. I know how bad parkinsons can get but I won't let my mind take me there. He has me on Azilect once a day. Urged me to join a gym, which I did, work out with light weights for my arms and to walk a LOT. He also told me to take Creatine, a substance from health food store.

I would love to communicate with you thru this board.
Keep up the positive attitude

I'd like to know more about Azilect. I've taken Requip for about a year and that helps my muscle spacticity (although not the arm swing or lack thereof). He recently added Azilect but I had to stop after two weeks due to dental surgery. Frankly it didn't seem to be doing much for me. I think it calmed my tremor a bit, but my tremor is so mild it's not work "fixing". I'm facing more dental work in March/April and trying to decide if I want to start it again. I have good insurance and I thought my max co-pay was $30 and the pharmacist says this is $50 (but if it works then whatever, I'll pay it)
