I was hospitalized but my friend received steroids at home. It was an option but my Dr. chose to go in the hospital because he wanted me to be constantly monitored and out of the high stimulation of my household.
I resisted steroids and wil never do them again. The side effects (including bone loss) are not worth it. I see no improvement at all, only more problems from them. I was on Azathioprine (I think it's one of the chemos) instead of steroids for a while but can't remember why I stopped.
I hope they come up with something other than steroids soon. I personally don't know anyone who feels better from steroids. I wonder if most people have obvious improvements during an exacerbation with steroids. If not, I just don't get why they would use steroids. Two neurologists have told me they don't change the lesions resulting from the flare-up. Hopefully this Antegren will be the wonder drug it's touted to be...50% less exacerbations, some lessening of some symptoms! Disease modification, quality of life improvement and no side effects! Sounds too good to be true.
