I have lots of migraine questions (Headaches board)

15th July 2005
1. Does anybody know the maximum you can use of Zomig in a month? I have used 3 sprays in the past 2 weeks. I'm already saying that if I get another migraine in the next 5 days that I'm not using another spray. What should I do??

2. I've read a few good things about Axert on here. Can people comment more on it please? I'm wondering if I shouldn't look into switching. Zomig never "aborts" my migraines...I think it just lessens the severity if I get it in soon enough. I'd like to hear about people who've switched to Axert and their experiences.

3. Can someone tell me about Fiorinal and the idea of rescue meds and how effective they are? Is this my only real alternative if I'm saying that I won't use another spray if I get sick in the next week?

4. Knowing that heat/humidity is my main trigger, does anyone know if it would be effective to treat migraines as an allergy? Could this prevent them?

5. I heard that Percocets are supposed to make migraines worse. Can anyone elaborate on this??

6. Does anybody know if Anxiety meds could be used as a good preventative?

Thanks everybody!

Well, that would depend on the milligrams of your Zomig nasal spray. Strongly suggest that you read the directions that came with the medication and/or discuss with your doctor.
I also use the Zomig nasal spray.
I was prescribed 5mg & I can use up to 2 sprays a day. No more than 2 per hour. So far, I have not needed to exceed that amount.
What I do is spray at the VERY FIRST SIGN of a migraine. Works in 3-5 minutes. If I wait too long, the spray takes approximately 30 minutes to take effect.

Thanks Chaz!

That was really informative. I'm going to print and save the info on there. I had no idea that fiorinal/fioricet was a barby med, and now I have zero interest in it. I'm thinking of testing out Axert to see how it works. Zomig has always mildly worked it seems. Maxalt tablets did NOTHING at all for me, in fact I believe it made my migraines worse. It makes me skeptical of Axert because I know it's a tablet, and it sounds similar to maxalt...but I've heard great results.

I ask about anxiety meds because after stopping depakote er, it seems that I was having anxiety covered up. I have physical anxiety symptoms that I want to deal with (anxious breathing...yawning, overbreathing, lots of deep breaths, etc). I've heard that some migraine preventatives are anti-anxiety meds. Are there any that you know of that don't have the withdrawal issues that ativan, paxil, and some others have, that would work as a mg preventative? I would go back to depakote, but it honestly wasn't doing much for my migraines in the summers anymore after a few years (was on it for 5 years total, and got 7 migraines last summer while on the med).

Thanks again.
