I have vestibular migraines and get intense pressure in my ears and head, also numbness in the face and back of head. The dr has told me to take Diamox and Axert. Has anyone heard of taking a diuretic for vestibular migraine? I tried the Axert yesterday which helped a little.

I have never heard of anyone trying Diamox for migraine or cluster headaches. I would get a referal to a neuro who specializes in headaches and get a proper diagnosis and meds. Axert is a good drug to take to abort ha. If it doesn't work that well for you you could ask to try imitrix or zomig nasal spray. It aborts the ha in 6-15 min. vs 1 hr by the axert. good luck!

Thanks for the information. I am going to a neuro who is a migrain specialist in Manhattan, NY. Actually, she is on the list for one of the top drs in the area. But.....I have never heard of taking that drug for migraine either. I am waiting to speak with her now and question the drug. The Axert eventually worked and I had no side effects so I think I will stick with it, but from what I understand you cannot keep taking every day for long periods of time.

No you are correct. Axert and other triptans like imitrix, zomig, maxalt, frova, amerge) have only been approved and had saftey studies done on them for 4 uses a month. However, I know of many people who suffer from cluster headaches for several days that last into months or years and they take it several times a day. If the drug companies ever wanted to test the long term effects of their drugs they should contact people who suffer from cluster headaches and get like 8 ha a day. I found from long term daily use that I had anxiety attacks from it but that was about it. My heart still works fine. Its all about how much you need, what your dr is willing to perscribe and what your insurance is willing to cover.

Just wanted to let you know that I had after taking the Axert for three days it did not keep the migraine away. The dr put me on something called Methylprednisonol (a steriod) for 6 days to try to break the cycle of the headache. Have you ever heard of this? She said then she wants me to take the Diamox which should treat the headache and the vestibular problems.
