first of all i want to tell you aobut my situation , ive had acne for 10 years or so , in the last few years ive had less acne then before BUT way more oil production. when i say more oil production im talking about taking a shower and 1 hour later having a fore head that looked like a mirror. not only that but my scalp was oily like crazy , my hair was oily , pretty much everything from the neck up was an oil slick. This was obviously some hormone problem but i never knew about this since im not a doctor and have very little knowledge of how oil is produced.

in these 10 years i tried many medicines and vitamins none of which really helped me, but i was fortunate enough to read a post by someone here about about hormones, dht etc, (i think this person is sweetjade who posted this long article) and there was a list of some oral DHT reducing medicines listed such as proscar , spiro , avodart etc.

first i tried using the vitamins listed (zinc b6 saw palmetto etc) but thosse didnt work so i guess i got tired of treating my acne with vitamins so i said screw it im goin for the heavy hitters! so i got avodart and my acne and oil production reduced literally overnight. I can pretty much not wash my face for 2 days and have skin that is totally dry and nice looking and my hair is getting better too! im so happy you dont understand all these years of suffering are behind me!

If you are a male and have very oilly skin and you tried everything without sucess maybe somthing like avodart can work for you too!

What is avodart? Is it anything like Spiro?

its not available over the counter, u have to have a note from the doctor, BUT ive seen avodart on many internet pharmacies that will ship to u with out a note.

its not approved for acne, its mostly used for baldness,although the 2 are linked as DHT is believed to be tthe culprit for both conditions

ive been taking it for a couple of weeks and like i said the effects are very fast.

yes, avodart has great potential (proscar might even be good as well since its similar although not as powerful as avodart) . The only thing is avodart is VERY expensive, almost a hundred dollars for a month supply. But i dont care, its the only thing that works for me so i dont mind paying it.

ive been blind for many years thinking i can treat acne with some stupid creams and vitamins. For mild acne these things may be okay, but for someone like us who have more severe conditions we have to hit acne at its core. This is all due to our hormones being out of wack, im glad there are more posts on this forum talking about hormones, it seems people are starting to understand (me included) what the true cause of our problems are...

any way if u have tried many medicines , vitamins and creams but they all failed this may be the answer, but i warn u just like with everything else just because it works for me doesnt mean it will work for others . just like accutane is a miracle for one but a hellish expirience for someone else.

hi, i've been interested lately in how these dht inhibitors work such as avodart. have u had any side effects from avodart. and once i start taking it will i need to stay on it forever or just until my acne is under control. thanks for any replies.

these drugs work on the lines of spiro.they suppress testosterone.plus they are more expensive.i dont know if im steril on spiro yet.i dont think i am even after almost 15 months on it but i know if im not my acne will come back.i guess its a risk you must be willing to take.you can always cycle these drugs......on.......off.....on.premerin,spiro,proscar and avodart are all used in male prostate cancers.you might have a less chance of becoming steril on them than on spiro but there is always a chance you might.keep me posted how your making out on avodart.have a merry christmas!

see the thing is from what i read is tat avodart reduces ur prostate in order to reduce the testostorone being released, so my understanding is that once you take it for 6-12 months your prostate will reduce to "normal" levels and produce the proper amount of testostorone instead of the high amounts most of us expirience , hence our acne problems.

you still will have to take it to keep the levels normal but i think only a maintananace dose can be administered, ( for instance only one dosage per 2 or 3 days instead of the everyday one you have to take initially)

i dont know im no doctor so this all might be wrong what im saying but its just stuff i concluded frmo doing a lot of reasearch for the last while about this issue....

what kind of cleanser do u use on your face while on avodart. will it dry out too much if u use a medicated cleanser. is your acne getting better or is it just dryer but still with acne. thanks for replies
