Alesse & Aviane-- are you getting the same results? (Birth Control board)

7th September 2007
So I've switched off of both Kariva (Mircette) and Tri-Sprintec (OrthoTriCyclen) and my doctor prescribed Aviane for me. I originally wanted to take Alesse (yes I know Aviane is the generic) but the pharmacy was out and I needed to get 3 months worth before leaving to go back to college. So I'm going to start Aviane in a few days (after my period) and was wondering if they really work the same.

I heard a lot of good things about Alesse but bad things about Aviane... ?? My doctor told me they're exactly the same and that's why she gave them to me. Are any of you ladies experiencing really good stuff with one or the other?

Thank you

Anyone else have any comments on Alesse or Aviane?

I am on my 2nd month of Aviane. I did start getting a yeast infection towards the end of my first pack but luckily I had a difulcan handy and it cleared right up. I have heard that Aviane can cause yeast infections. Who knows. I had a lot of nausea on Aviane but I started taking my pill at night so that problem has been alleviated. I want to switch to alesse, but it is much more expensive and Aviane is so cheap. So I am going to stick with the Aviane for 3 months and see how it goes. I feel good on this pill, no bloating, no weight gain and no emotional ups and downs. I dont think you have to worry about getting pregnant on it unless you miss pills or fail to take them at the same time every day.

I am also taking Aviane right now. I was on Alesse for almost a year, but the doctor switched me to a one hormone pill because of my headaches.

Anyhow, I was still getting headaches on the one hormone pill so I switched back to Alesse. The doctor said they don't have anymore Alesse so she gave me Aviane. She told me it has the exact same ingredients as Alesse and should work the same.

This is only my 6th day on it. She told me to try it for 3 months and see how it goes.
