22nd January 2003
Yes, I developed moderate/severe acne at 23. I always had a few bumps here and there before but my skin was mostly clear.
The birth control pill I started on was Orthocyclen. It worked wonders for my skin and made it radient. However, it gave me migraines everyday. The MD switched me to Mercette and that is when all hell broke loose. So, he switched me again to Aviane which I am currently on. I don't think the switch to Aviane has helped... the B5 and other vitamins is what helped. I heard the bc pills deplete the zinc in your body and do all kinds of other crazy $h!t to mess up your system and cause acne.
On the bc pill, I developed tinea versicolor which is a form of yeast and fungal overgrowth. I had lovely white splotches all over my arms, back and hands. I treated that w/ selenium sulfide and it took about 3 months to get rid of. I also get yeast infections (sorry, guys!!!) a lot now and I never used to. The MD said the pill causes this. So, I'm sure the pill is causing this acne. The B5 is helping to combat those side effects.
I asked the MD to put me on ortho again and he said no way. He said it could cause problems since my migraines were so severe. He looked at me like I was crazy when I said I'd rather have migraines than zits.
Hope that answers your all's questions... sorry if I rambled...
